The legislation regarding asbestos is clear. Every commercial premises in the UK should have now been subject to an asbestos report and measures taken to manage any materials containing asbestos.
Your failure to have this information and a management plan in place could result in prosecution.
Should a new development require the demolishment of an existing building then it’s the clients responsibility to ensure that a Management Survey Report is available for the developer, this will then alert the developer as to the finding of such report.
Prior to the demolishment of any building a Demolition Survey ‘MUST’ be carried out by law, this is to determine whether the fabric of the building holds dangerous asbestos materials. Appointed demolition contractors will request a copy of the ‘Demolition Survey Report’ prior to any works commencing.
